In the Harry Potter films, each wand is as unique as the witch or wizard who wields it. Whether talon-shaped like BellatrixFresh off of the Vincent Van Gogh Immersive experience, which placed visitors inside paintings like The Starry Night, Lighthouse Immersive has brought the Disney version to Boston.
Disney is where dreams come true, and on Wednesday night Disney fans of all ages got a chance to live out theirs at the VIP premiere of the Disney Animation: Immersive Experience in Boston.

Wednesday’s event, held at Lighthouse ArtSpace inside the Saunders Castle at Park Plaza, 130 Columbus Avenue in Boston, celebrated 100 years of Disney films with floor-to-wall projections that blend together scenes from classics like “The Lion King” to newer films like “Zootopia.”
As kids ran around the ArtSpace and danced to their favorite Disney songs like the popular “We Don’t Talk About Bruno, ” parents watched by smiling in awe over the featured films.

“It brings back childhood memories, ” Saurav Sharma, 34, said. “What’s so great is that you’ve got ‘The Lion King, ’ and all these old movies that we watched in the ‘90s and it’s just bringing back all these old movies and we can share these experiences with our kids.”
Sharma, who took his 2-year-old daughter Niya to the event, said he liked how “relatable” the light show was compared to Immersive’s previous projects like Frida Khalo or Van Gogh.

Corey Ross, the founder of Lighthouse Immersive, said in the past, the audience for his shows has been mostly adults. However, after the Van Gogh Immersive Experience, he wanted to partner with Disney Animation Studios to produce a light show that would attract audiences of all ages.
“Everyone has grown up on their own era of Disney, and to take these Disney characters and Disney scenes that you know, and place you in the middle of it in this immersive way and then turn it around so you’re seeing them from a new perspective, was what we thought was going to be very interesting, ” Ross said.
Although audiences are introduced to a montage of different Disney films that span generations, all the featured pictures are tied together by a singular theme: dreams.

“So many of these Disney characters did have dreams and they have struggled to accomplish those dreams, ” Ross said. “But if they have the courage and the wherewithal to stick to it, their dreams become true. And this is really the special secret that’s deep inside the Disney vault, and what we can all take away from 100 years of Disney films.”
The light show also creates a more enhanced experience for younger viewers who grew up on iPads and television screens, Svetlana Dvoretsky, co-founder and producer of Lighthouse Immersive said.

At one point in the show, the audience was immersed in a deep blue light as Elsa from “Frozen” sang the song “Show Yourself.” Children then started to jump up and down clasping their hands as hundreds of little bubbles began to disperse into the ArtSpace.
Children — and their adults — run and try to grab floating bubbles while a projector plays a scene from Disney's Frozen on a wall.
“It’s all about technology, it’s all about a new way of encountering and observing art, ” Dvoretsky said. In addition to the visual effects, the light show’s spacious environment gives children the freedom to run around as they please.

Dorothy McKim, the special projects producer for Disney, said that she hopes visitors of all ages will remember what was happening in their lives when they first watched a Disney film.
“You can bring that to this experience, there’s people that are laughing, there are people crying, there’s people that are jumping up and down, ” McKim said. “You can bring your authentic self in here. There’s nothing that is holding you back.”
